Government employee in Mississauga accused of offering exam answers for cash

Police alleging he was helping applicants cheat for a fee

A young Mississauga man has been charged with breach of trust after a joint investigation between Peel Regional Police and the Government of Ontario.

The probe started on Sept. 5 and involved a joint effort between Peel’s fraud officers and the Ontario College of Trades and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Police say a Ministry employee had access to trade exams as well as access to the Ontario College of Trades’ “tradesperson and journeyperson database.”

Information from the Ontario College of Trades revealed that an individual was contacting failing applicants and offering the exam answers for a fee.

Police made an arrest on City Centre Drive just before 3:30 p.m. on Nov 1.

Umar Gilani, 28, has been charged with breach of trust by a public officer. He will be in Brampton court Dec. 3.
